Residential EV Charging Installation in the Colorado Front Range

Many EV owners love their new car but quickly run into the same daily frustration: waiting all night for a slow trickle charge that barely keeps up. You deserve a setup that works as fast as your schedule, not one that leaves you guessing whether you’ll have enough range to start the day.

A professionally installed Level 2 charger from Mac Electric gives you the speed and reliability your EV truly needs. It turns your home into your most dependable charging station, delivering consistent power, shorter wait times, and the freedom to drive without planning around outlets or public chargers.

The Fastest, Easiest Electrical Upgrade for EV Owners

A dedicated home charging station is one of the highest-value upgrades an EV owner can make. Level 2 chargers run on a 240V circuit, the same type that powers your dryer or oven, and charge your vehicle up to eight times faster than a standard wall outlet. For most Colorado drivers, that means a fully charged battery every morning with just a few hours of overnight charging.

Mac Electric reviews your home’s electrical capacity, recommends the right setup for your vehicle and usage, and installs everything cleanly and to code. We also handle all required permits so you’re covered for inspections, homeowner’s insurance, and resale down the road.

Benefits of Charging Where You Live

  • Up to 8x faster charging: Level 2 delivers up to 25 mi of range per hour vs. 3–5 mi on a standard outlet
  • Dedicated, safe circuit: Properly sized breaker and wiring built for continuous EV load demands
  • Wake up fully charged: Overnight charging on a Level 2 means a full battery before your day starts
  • Works with every major EV: Tesla, Ford, GM, Rivian, Hyundai, BMW, VW, Nissan, and more
  • Increase your home’s value: Home EV chargers are an increasingly valued feature for buyers in Colorado
  • Lower long-term fuel costs: Charging at home is significantly cheaper per mile than gasoline or public stations

From Photos to Plug-In: How Installation Works

Getting a home EV charger installed shouldn’t feel like a project that takes over your week, and with Mac Electric, it doesn’t. You send us a few quick photos, and we use them to create an accurate quote and map out the right setup for your home. From there, we check your electrical capacity, pull the needed permit, and schedule the installation at a time that works for you.

On installation day, our licensed electricians handle the wiring, set up your charger, and test everything so it runs smoothly the first time. After the final inspection, we show you how to charge with ease so you feel ready to plug in from day one. If you’re ready to make EV ownership simpler, we’re here to help.

EV Charging at Home FAQs

You’re welcome to use the charger you already purchased, and we’ll install it as long as it meets safety standards. Most Level 2 chargers are compatible with all major EVs, so the brand isn’t usually a dealbreaker. If you haven’t bought one yet, we’re happy to recommend reliable units that work well for Colorado homes.

We work with all kinds of setups, including detached garages, carports, and long driveways. Access to your garage or driveway is important for convenient charging, if you park on the street or have limited access, let us know so we can plan accordingly. We also ensure your charging cable is long enough to reach your vehicle comfortably and safely, considering placement and compatibility. For outdoor installations, we use NEMA 3R or 4 rated equipment to protect against adverse weather conditions. In some cases, this means running conduit outdoors or trenching a line underground, which we can absolutely handle. We’ll walk you through the options so you know exactly what to expect before we begin.

Your bill will likely go up a bit because you’re charging at home, but most homeowners find the increase much cheaper than paying for gas. You can also choose charging times that take advantage of lower utility rates, which many EV owners prefer. We’re happy to talk through smart charging features if you want to optimize your usage.

Many of our customers think ahead, and we love that. We can install your charger in a way that makes adding a second EV charger or a shared circuit much easier down the line. Planning now saves you time and money when that next vehicle comes home.

Colorado’s cold winters and hot summers don’t cause problems for properly installed Level 2 chargers. Outdoor-rated units are built to handle temperature swings, snow, and moisture without any issues. If your charger is going outside, we’ll make sure it’s installed in a location and configuration that protects it year-round.

Level 1 chargers use your standard 120V household outlet and typically add 3–5 miles of range per hour, fine for plug-in hybrids but too slow for most full EVs. Level 2 chargers run on a dedicated 240V circuit and deliver 15–30+ miles of range per hour depending on your vehicle and charger amperage. For daily EV drivers, Level 2 is essentially the baseline for convenient home charging. We install Level 2 systems exclusively.

Not necessarily. Many Colorado homes have enough capacity in their existing panel to support a 40–50 amp Level 2 circuit without any upgrades. We perform a load calculation as part of every quote to check available capacity. If your panel is at or near its limit, common in older homes, we’ll let you know and can include a panel upgrade as part of the same project. You’ll have a clear picture of everything before we schedule the installation.

Yes, and they can meaningfully offset your cost. The federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit currently covers 30% of the installation cost, up to $1,000, for homeowners who install a qualified Level 2 charger. Some Colorado utilities, including Xcel Energy, also offer rebate programs for residential EV charger installation. Incentive programs do change, so we recommend confirming current availability when you’re ready to move forward. We’re happy to share what we know at the time of your quote.

Yes, in most Front Range jurisdictions, including Denver, Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley, an electrical permit is required for Level 2 EV charger installation. This isn’t a bureaucratic hurdle; it’s what ensures the work is inspected, up to code, and documented for your homeowner’s insurance and eventual resale. Mac Electric handles all permit paperwork and schedules the required inspection on your behalf. It’s included in our process, not an add-on.

Most residential EV charger installations are completed in a single visit, typically three to five hours. More complex runs, like a detached garage with underground conduit, may take longer, and we’ll give you a realistic timeframe upfront. Permit processing usually takes one to three business days before we can schedule the install, so the typical timeline from quote to completed installation is one to two weeks.

Outdoor installation is absolutely an option. We use outdoor-rated charger units and weatherproof enclosures appropriate for Colorado’s climate, so if you park in a driveway, carport, or any uncovered space, we can put the charger exactly where you need it. We’ll assess the best placement based on your parking situation, panel location, and cable reach during the quoting process.

Our installation includes all labor, wiring, a properly sized dedicated circuit breaker, conduit, mounting hardware, permit filing, and final testing. The EV charging unit itself (the wall-mounted charger) can be supplied by you or recommended and sourced through us, either works. If you already own a charger, just let us know the make and model when you request your quote so we can confirm compatibility and any amperage requirements.
